HCP — Human Control Point (Canonical Definition)

Coined by: Dany Theriault, May 16, 2026 — EVE Glyph Design platform.

Definition

A Human Control Point (HCP) is a named, geometrically-anchored seat where a human — not software, not an AI — holds the decision authority for a portion of an EVE Glyph Design system. Every HCP is depicted by the EVE glyph itself: the same iconography at every vertex. The glyph is the icon; the icon is the glyph.

Why the glyph is the icon

The EVE glyph's three triangle vertices are the geometric expression of the three HCPs. Showing the glyph at each vertex closes the loop: the system's parts are made of the same shape as the system itself. Inheritor-operable — a child can recognize the marker because it is the same mark as the umbrella.

The three HCPs of the EVE platform

The chord (the flat top of the half-circle vessel) is the bifurcation between truth (above, under the umbrella) and darkness (below, un-watermarked).

Canonical SVG mark for an HCP

<svg viewBox="0 0 48 48" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" aria-label="EVE glyph HCP marker">
  <polygon points="24,5 5,40 43,40" fill="none" stroke="#d97e2f" stroke-width="2.4" stroke-linejoin="round"/>
  <circle cx="24" cy="27" r="9" fill="none" stroke="#d97e2f" stroke-width="1.8"/>
  <path d="M 9 40 A 15 15 0 0 0 39 40" fill="none" stroke="#d97e2f" stroke-width="1.8"/>
</svg>

Stroke colour #d97e2f is the EVE accent. The mark is always rendered in line with the geometric reading: triangle apex up, inner circle (the present), half-circle vessel (EVE the inheritor) below the chord.

Usage rules

  1. Term: "HCP" on first reference; "Human Control Point" spelled out the first time in any new document.
  2. Visual: Use the canonical SVG mark above wherever an HCP is named. Do not substitute a generic dot, icon, or word-only label.
  3. Capitalisation: HCP (all caps). Vertex names are title-case: "HCP · Apex", "HCP · Base-left", "HCP · Base-right".
  4. Pluralisation: "HCPs" (no apostrophe).
  5. Composition: Every EVE platform surface (web, document, slide, code comment) names its HCPs explicitly when describing how the system makes decisions. The phrase "sovereign-AI never decides alone" is enforced by the presence of an HCP in the loop.
