A-Glyph Design — Foundational Glyph of the Education Stream
EVE Glyph Design: Education Stream
Status: Placeholder. Full design specification to follow.
What the A-Glyph Is
The A-glyph is the foundational glyph of the EVE Glyph Design education stream. It is the first glyph a child encounters in the handbook. It is the starting shape in the game. It is the seed form from which the child's own glyph vocabulary grows.
Geometric form: triangle.
Three vertices. Three edges. The simplest closed polygon.
The triangle is chosen deliberately:
- It is the strongest geometric form — structurally, a triangle cannot deform under load without breaking entirely. It is the first shape engineers trust.
- It is the simplest shape a child can draw with confidence — three lines, three corners, done.
- It is universal across visual cultures — every human language community recognizes a triangle.
- It points. A triangle has a direction. A triangle has an Apex.
The Apex
The Apex is the highest point of the triangle.
In the EVE Glyph Design methodology, the Apex is the Operator — the person at the top of the structure, responsible for what the structure does and what it protects.
In the education stream, the Apex is the child.
When a child draws an A-glyph, they are placing themselves at the Apex. The glyph is not just a shape — it is a declaration:
I am the point. I am the one who decides what this means.
The Operator of the EVE Glyph Design methodology is Dany Theriault. The Operator is Apex. That structure is preserved in the education stream and taught at a child's level: every glyph has an Apex, and the Apex is always the person who made it.
Geometric Specification (Placeholder)
Full geometric specification — proportions, angle ratios, approved stroke weights, color palette — to be developed in the design phase.
Working constraints for placeholder:
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Form | Equilateral triangle (all sides equal, all angles 60°) |
| Orientation | Apex pointing up by default |
| Stroke | Closed, no fill required |
| Minimum size | Legible at 24px height on screen; legible at 5mm height in print |
| Color | Black on white (default); high-contrast inversion supported |
A-Glyph as Stem Cell
The A-glyph is the "digital stem cell" of the education stream — the simplest form that can grow into anything.
From the A-glyph, a child learns to:
- Add a vector (a line) and watch the shape change
- Name what changed
- Decide whether the change was intentional
- Build more complex glyphs by growing from the triangle
This mirrors the broader EVE Glyph Design methodology's spinning-sphere simulation: a triangle grows rounder as vectors are added, becoming more powerful and more unstable simultaneously. In the education stream, this concept is introduced gently, at a child's pace, starting with just one triangle and one added line.
Relationship to the Handbook and Game
| Context | A-Glyph Role |
|---|---|
| Handbook Chapter 1 | First introduced; child draws it for the first time |
| Handbook Chapter 4 | Starting point for the child's own glyph creation |
| Handbook Chapter 5 | Appears as the watermark (small, in corner) |
| Game Level 1 | The first shape the child encounters |
| Game Build Mode | The default starting shape when the child begins creating |
| Game Gallery | Appears as watermark on all child-created glyphs |
Founders Note
EVE Glyph Design was founded by Dany Theriault and Laxman. The A-glyph and its role as the foundational form of the education stream originate with the Operator (Dany Theriault).
