Hey thanks for visiting my Substack site! I’d love to add you to my newsletter community.

1. Why this, why now

If you know me, you know this: I love ideas. I want to offer the best ideas I can to my all my friends to depend on data for their daily job. I think there’s a huge opportunity to bring harmony to companies and their employees when their decision data becomes frictionless. I’ll test these ideas out on you, see if they fly. Please violently agree, madly disagree, help me improve them, or start a new tangent.

I’m sure you’re thinking that a blog about data solutions might be the most boring thing you’d ever read, but if you talk to someone who uses data in their job – which includes tens of millions of people just in America – you’ll know they’ve got issues. Companies buy ultra-expensive technology solutions that are really just multi-million dollar shortcuts. They expect data to improve their company’s decision-making, but instead they have unreliable data, discouraged analysts, and disconnected decisions. They can’t stop the friction.

2. What you’ll get

Here’s my promise to you: you will get clear, non-jargony, counterintuitive ideas that influence the way you think about your data. Whether you’re an executive, an analyst, or a data worker, you’ll get something you can use. This will be a conversation, and I’ll respond to everything, so if you’d like to get notified, register below (I won’t share your info), or just follow on Linked-In.

Here’s what I won’t do. I am not going to try and impress you with amazing technical insights. That’s not my game. I have no plans to regurgitate the latest industry jargon to you. Writing books and articles is not a road to riches. I’m not writing for any of these reasons.

3. Who is this newsletter for?

Maybe you’re a hands-on data worker or an analyst. If that’s you, I’ll help you connect the work you do to the business outcomes everyone expects but few actually realize. The goal of a good data strategy is to make better, faster decisions, and I want to help you get there.

Or maybe you’re an executive without experience in the data world. I’ll help you grow your data competency and your confidence.

I write to everyone who uses data to do their job: top-level decision makers (CFOs, CIOs, CDOs), hands-on data workers (data engineer, architect, or report writer), and those in the middle – the analysts who bridge the gap between the data and what the executives need to know.

4. How we’ll engage

You’ll hear from me on a new topic about once a week, but I’ll reply to conversations every day. If there’s a question or new topic you’d like to see discussed, I’ll take that on too.
