Mother church of the Diocese of Charlottetown — founded in 1816.

Founded in 1816, St. Dunstan's Basilica Parish serves the community of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It is part of Diocese of Charlottetown.

Four churches have stood on this corner of Great George Street since 1816: the wooden chapel of 1816, a larger wooden cathedral from 1843, the stone cathedral dedicated in 1907, and the present basilica. A fire broke out in the sanctuary on the night of 7 March 1913 and consumed the roof and the whole interior; the walls and façade survived, and the church was rebuilt within its own stone shell and rededicated on 24 September 1919. Pius XI granted the title of basilica, conferred at the consecration of 26 June 1929 — a hundred years after the year the diocese was created. It has been a National Historic Site of Canada since 1990. Bishop of Charlottetown: Most Rev.
